The weather has been perfect and continues so today with the current temperature of 33 C, a clear sky and a moderate westerly wind.
The Championships started today with a morning opening by the Governor General of New Zealand, The Honourable Anand Satyanand, PCNZM, QSO.
Well patronized, the opening ceremony featured a parade of all teams, welcome speeches and music by the Skellerup Woolston Brass Band. While the official party enjoyed a morning tea together, the various teams dispersed to their various venues for an 11 am start.

A tropical cyclone has moved south just west of the country affecting the weather throughout New Zealand. Fortunately, here in Canterbury, we are sheltered from its effects by the Southern Alps. The morning has seen excellent conditions however a sharp shower came in just as the Women's Triples was concluding on the Dorchester Green. The overcast sky indicates westerly winds aloft but here at the Club the flags show a moderate easterly. Temperatures are mild and we await the afternoon developments with interest.
