Official of the Year
Congratulations to Barry Moore on winning Official of the Year, at the BowlsNZ National Bowls Awards.
This award, presented at a special dinner in Auckland, recognises Barry’s sterling work as Chief Umpire for World Bowls, at both National and International levels.
Barry, in his 10th year as Education Officer for Bowls Canterbury, is responsible for training new umpires for their International Umpires Badges. This involves teaching the laws as well as practical side of bowling. Barry holds monthly discussion groups on umpiring in the Canterbury region.
The Official of the Year Award is just reward to Barry Moore for the many years of extraordinary service he has given to New Zealand Bowls.
Opening Day
Official opening of the 2007/2008 season will be held on Saturday 22 September with speeches in the Hori Collet Memorial Lounge of the club pavilion. Weather permitting, this will be followed by the roll-up of the first jack and bowl.
The greens are looking good and well prepared for the winter time ready for spring growth and a long season which includes the World Bowls events in January 2008.
BowlsNZ National Bowls Awards for 2006/2007
The Fendalton Bowling Club has been successful in making the finals in three categories.
- Club of the Year- Fendalton Bowling Club.
- Official of the Year - Mr Barry Moore.
- Green Keeper of the Year - Mr Ken Thickett.
All finalists will attended the Awards Dinner held in Auckland on 8th September where the winners are to be announced.
Recognition is well deserved, as our Club and Greens have been highly regarded by all players from New Zealand and overseas. It is a mark of excellence that the Club featured in the best 3 of 500 clubs throughout New Zealand.
World Bowls Championships 2008
When the World Bowls Championships are held in Christchurch 12 - 27 January 2008, many of the games will use the well proven greens at Fendalton. This is another opportunity to see world champions in action. Information will be posted as it comes to hand or visit World Bowls
Club House
Renovations are now complete and the lift to the upstairs lounge installed.
Gardens and Grounds
The gardens are being prepared and planted for a peak display in January. Summer has been kind with good rain and warm temperatures, we trust winter will favour our preparations.
Greens
The greens are currently closed to allow careful preparation to maintain perfect surfaces for the coming events.
